Question people ask when pregnant.

Telling people your pregnant is one of the most exciting thing in the world, but have you noticed when you tell people your pregnant the first question they ask is, “are you going to breast-feed?” I don’t understand why thats the first question people want to know. I find it very annoying because it’s no one’s business whether you’re going to breastfeed or not. Why they want to know is beyond me, nosy bastards.

Another thing, that annoys me is when people ask if your going to breastfeed and if you say no, they ask “why!” Its the best thing for your baby. Then they go, “you will chang your mind when the baby is born.” Oh my god, did my wife and I hear that saying all through her pregnancy. No matter what we did or said, people would just reply, “you will change your mind when the baby is born.” Actually WE HAVEN’T. They don’t know us, they were wrong as well. Shell, didnt want to breast-feed, she didn’t change her mind when our baby was born either. People are just so dam nosy.

On Monday 19th Dec, we had the health visitors and she weighed DKP, she is 9lbs at 6weeks 5 days old. That is a good weight. She is getting so big so fast.

How we had our baby

A lot of people may be wondering how we went about with having our baby. We kept talking about for years about having kids of our own, but in January 2010 we decided to become foster carers, after 11months of doing the process of becoming foster carers we got a call from the home assessment social worker  said we wouldnt pass the panel so to terminate our application, this is another story that I willl continue at a later date.

Anyways. After being turned down to foster we decided to start our own family and finally go for having a baby. Thats when I started researching our rights as lesbian parents in england, and researching donors, and what type we will need and how to go about getting a donor. I registered to a few donor websites and searched for months, finally I find a AI donor, and I messaged him and within a few days he messaged me back. All was going good, then after 3-4 weeks the donor wanted to do it NI, which means natural insemination aka SEX. I was heart broken, this guy had got us emotionally involved with him cause he was going to help us have a baby and goes an pulls this trick? So I told him that we didn’t want him as a donor now and we got rid of him.
Again I searched the donor sites and wrote posts and about a month maybe a little longer went by in march I found another donor that I liked. I messaged him and he messaged me back and everything was going good. We emailed each other for weeks, making sure both parties know the ins an out of this AI. We both agreed on no contact afterwards, no contact with child, he is just a donor an nothing more. He agreed an we decided to wait till my wifes 30th bday in june to start the insemination. We bought a home insemination kit,It  comes with everything you need to do inseminate at home. I will have to use a suringe to get the sperm up from the cup and then insert the suringe inside my wife, shell.

July comes and we’re testing for ovulation, but because we never did this before we MISSED our ovulation. We was guted and upset with ourselves. The donor couldn’t do it in Augest so we had to skip next months, which was upsetting as well. We do the Home insemination in september,October we wait the two weeks, but NEGATIVE pregnancy tests. We was sad but its okay its only been two inseminations tries.  Novemeber the donor couldn’t do it so we skipped November.

We tried again in December, waited the 2 weeks, Shell was even late for a week, we was OMG is this it?? Nope, she had her period. We really thought she was pregnant. We decided to skip January because shell’s ovulation  was to close to the holidays. So Feburary comes and we do the AI on the 4th Feb 2012. We wait the 2 weeks, Shell is over a week late as well, we have one them cheap pregnancy test strips, there’s a faint line on the stick we was like ok is it positive or negative?? Well we decided to buy clear view pregnancy test.  Shell takes the pregnancy test after work and we wait and it feels like ages. After 3 minutes the test came back PREGNANT, 1-2 weeks. It was the most happiest momment in our lives. We was gobsmacked. We just couldn’t believe it. 

 

 We told our families and our families didn’t believe us at first but they was so happy for us. Shell’s pregnancy went good, she was down as high risk because we had a donor, and because she has thallasemia, she’s half greek. But the donor said he didnt have it but the midwife still put shell down as high risk. We had many growth scans, many scans in general. We got 4 scan photos out of the pregnancy that was a bonus! Shell didn’t get very big, she was size 16 before pregnant and she stayed size 16! It was all baby,not bloated by water. She was lucky she only gained 1 st 1/2.  Shell had really bad labor though, she was in labor for 3 days, it was the most horrible feeling in the world seeing your wife in so much pain and not able to help her. On the 3rd day though the baby was in distress and shell was to and they had to do an emergency C-section. Our baby was born 31.10.2012 at 1:40 pm. Wedsnday. Weighting 6lbs 9oz.  She was fine and shell was fine. It was the scariest day of my life though. I thought I was going to loose my wife. But it all worked out for the best. This is our story, we did it, so  can you!

We finally get to register Dekayla's birth on monday, it's great that we both will be on her birth certificate.

we our proud to announce the birth of our baby girl on 31st October 2012 at 13:40. Weighing 6 pounds 9oz, 23 1/2 inches long.

Just when we thought..

Just when we thought the appointments would stop....The consultant wants more growth scans done. Why? We have no idea, the baby has put on an 7 OZ/ 59g's in a week. So a 36 week scan an she wanted a 40 week scan...yeah the scan unit said no to booking the 40 week scan thankfully. We really can't wait now till the baby is born. Not long left, 5 weeks 4 days, 38 days.. :)

Everything is going great!

We had a growth scan last week, the baby is very active! Bubby never stays still long enough for the sonogapher to do her job haha. The baby is on track with everything, weight is 2117G aka 4lbs 11oz, this was as of  7th September so the baby is probably little heavier now. I think they say the baby gains an oz a day. Shell still isn't so big if you see her with clothes on. When she has her clothes off you can see the baby bump alot better. She is quite lucky she is so small at this stage. I expected her to get really big, but she didn't. We still don't know the sex of the baby, but we don't have long to wait so there is no point in finding out now.  We have almost everything, just need to get baby bouncer chair, and stock up on more diapers and whipes and get more baby grows and probably bibs. So excited I cant wait till the baby is born now.

Appointments Discontinued yes!

The appointments had finally be discontinued after shell went to her consultant, she said the appointments aren't necessary and stoped them. So no more mac appointments twice a week an scans. The baby is growing quickly and is healthy. I would guess the baby is roughly 4lbs give or take. Shell is 31 weeks now.

Appointments and more appointments....

We been having hospital appointments twice a week now at the mac and having growth scans done, all because the baby weighed 2.1 and most are 2.2-2.4. They are over reaction because of her medical past as well but really doesn't effect her now. Well its for the baby the midwives say, but don't worry about the 10hrs a week your loosing out at work...well hopefully tomorrow the growth scan will show the baby is growing and there's no need to keep doing twice a week appointments. We shall see though. Shell is starting to show alot more now, the baby is kicking really hard now to. Its just so amazing, I can't wait to hold him or her!

We changed our minds....

After some talking yesterday, I think we decided to not find out the sex of the baby. We have gone this far with out knowing and we can go another 3 months. We would like to know the sex of the baby, but...we don't want to accidently feel dissappointed if it's not a boy. We want a healthy baby, gender isn't important anymore. We would really like a boy, but if its a girl we will be happy to, a heathly happy baby is all we ask.

Next Scan

The next scan will be 3rd Aug. Shell will be 28 weeks. Lets hope we can find out the sex of the baby.

20 week scan

Yesterday we had the 20 week scan, the sonographer was in such a hurry yesterday. She didn't bother lookin for the sex till we asked and when she looked it was a rush job an didnt bother takin her time, just said i dont know..if i were to guess..an were like dont guess if you dont know then dont guess!! So we have no idea what were having yet. Got another scan in 8 weeks, hopefully they can tell what sex the baby is. The baby is big an healthy and was kickin up a storm yesterday. Doing summersaults as well, was really awsome to see. I  was upset that we couldnt find out the sex but honestly im so happy the baby is alive an kicking!

Today Shell had an hospital appointment,it was suppose to be for her heart but yet again she didn't get it checked out, she has to wait till there's a cancellation. Athough they put her on iron tablets again an folid acid again as her iron is really low. Tomorrow is our 2nd scan and we find out the sex of the baby, were so excited. They also want two more scans done after tomorrow, at 28 weeks and 34 weeks to check the growth of the baby. The doc heard the heart beat of the baby an its strong so thats good. Now I cant wait til tomorrow.

16 weeks photos

12 week scan

On Friday we had the 12 week scan, although shell was 12 weeks +6. I got to see our little baby, it was so amazing. The lil bug was jumping and kicking. I was in owe. All of our dates are exact to the T. On Feb 4th is when Shell got pregnant,that is the day we did the AI, so its amazing. I cant wait untill the next scan which is at 21.5 weeks. June 13th is when the next scan wil be and we will get to see if its a boy or a girl. I am so excited for it. I just wish my mom and family back home could be apart of our journy to parenthood, it just seems unfair sometimes to my family. 

I can get a jealous about the fact my family is missing out an shell's family gets to be here every step of the way. Well anyways the baby is healthy and fine, they wasnt concerned with nothing. All the measurements are where their suppose to be, so we are glad everthing is fine. I cant wait till October now. 

Blood test results

Yesterday shell got her blood test results back, as we knew, she is a carrier of thallasemia type B, her moms is also a carrier of type B as well. We knew this already. Shell's mom is full cypriot greek, shell is only half but still is a carrier, she is the only one out of the 6 kids that is a carrier. Its nothing to worry about, the donor has to be the same type of carrier for it to do any harm and he said he isn't so we have to take his word on it. We are going to have the baby tested though when s/he is born. We have our scan Friday, and we are so excited.

We have the scan next week, I am so excited. I really can't wait to see our "lil one" for the first time. Shell is entering her 12 week by the end of the this week. She had a bit of morning sickness yesterday but today she seems fine. The time is going by quick, I didn't expect it to go by so quick but the first 3 months have, I be the last 3 months goes by slow haha. Well either way Im still super excited and I cant wait till our lil one is born.

Midwife visit

We had the midwife come the sunday just gone. She discussed all the things she needed to with shell. The midwife was a bit worried because of the past pregnacy problems shell had, but that was over 12yrs ago. Were not worried. The GP got the dates wrong and so did the midwife, they put shell's LMP as the conceived date, so their off by 2 weeks. The midwife said they will have to move the scan forward. 

On Tuesday we found out the new scan date will be April 20th at Noon. So we are officially 10 weeks 5 days. Oh wow so excited. Our "lil one" is growing so fast, cant wait to hold him/her. Our new due date is October 27th, instead of Nov 10th. 

Appointment dates.

Okay great news,yesterday the midwife called and gave us the scan dates and also the specialist appointment for shell's heart. The 12/13 week scan date is May 1st at 9am. The Specialist appointment is May 15th at 9am. The midwife will be doing a home visit on April 1st at 10:30am. Wish it was a bit later than 10:30am! I will just be getting home at 7:30 from work, oh well, midwife is for shell anyways. So finally been given our dates and now we can't wait for the 12 week scan so we can see our baby.

Still waiting...

It has been two weeks and we still haven't heard from either the GP or the midwife. So annoying we just want to know what's going on.  Well if we haven't heard anything by friday will call and see whats up.

I hate the waiting game, im not very patient lol. Well Shell is 5 weeks 4 days now, she hasn't got the morning sickness yet, which is good. The heart beat of the fetus beats at week 5, so our "lil one" has a heart beat, so precious. Also the brain starts to develop this week as well. So exciting!  Will update soon as I know more......

The doc appointment

The doctors appointment went fine, she didn't even need to take another pregnacy test, weird but ok. The doctor did some follow up checks on her and that was that. Instead of referring her to the hospital/midwife the doc told shell to call them up herself if she has any problems getting in let them know an they will refer her. Why don't they just referr her anyways gosh. Shell got a email this morning, stating a midwife will be in touch with her in the next week.So we will just wait an go from there.

The doctor is going by her last period date instead of date of conception. So their going to say shell is 6 weeks when reality is she's only 4 weeks tomorrow. I am so happy and excited, I can't wait for our lil baby to grow.

Doctors appointment

On thursday Shell has a doctors appointment to confirm she is pregnant. Then she will be referred to a Midwife. I really can't wait for the first scan. So excited.

The Results

We are SOOO happy and just cant stop smiling. We been wanting to have our own family for years now, and now its finally happening. I am so happy and I just love my wife so much. I already love my unborn child so much. I know she is only 3 weeks along but I cant help it. Im so happy. Shell is so happy to an she is stating to feel pregnant. Sore breast, stomach feels bloated and she has adomonal pains.

Telling The Family

We just found out were pregnant, now we was conteplating when to tell the family. Should we wait till the 3month scan or should we tell them straight away. We was just to excited to keep it quiet we decided to tell our familes. On Friday, 24th Feb we told my family first, well my family live in America as im American so I called  my mom up an told her an she was like OMG, HOW!? Haha, I explained an she was just so happy for us.

Next was telling Shell's family. I wanted to tell her parents in person, so we invited the out for a drink an told them the news. They was excited, didnt react the way I thought they would but they was happy. It was a good night, but lead to a argument between me an my mother inlaw lol. She wanted to be at the birth an I said no its just gonna be me an shell an she was mad. She also wanted to come to shell's first scan an shell an I said no an that pissed her off to. We want our own family momments ya know. But Shells siblings were all shocked an excited for us and same with her cousins. It was a good turn out.

How it all started

We are going to take you back to how it all started and why.  We tried to become foster carers in Jan 2010 but after 11months we was denied Dec 2010. We was frustrated and angry, but afterwards we sat down an decided this is it. We are going to have our own kids, we agreed we would try for a baby after Shell's 30th birthday in June 2011. So now that we know when we wanted to start trying for a baby the next step was to find a donor. Thats when I started searching an researching for AI donors. It wasn't easy but I eventually found us a suitable AI donor. After a month he decided he wanted to do it natural, so we got rid of that donor and I again went an searched for another donor. After a month I found us another donor. Months went by and it was finally time to start trying for a baby.

It was july 2011, we missed our ovulation date, so that month was a miss, then Auguest the donor was away so was unable to do the AI. We was a little upset but we understood. So September then Oct comes an we do the AI, we waited the 2 weeks but shell started her period. We Didn't bother doing the pregnacy test. I told the donor when shell was ovualtion was but unfortuntely he was away that weekend so couldn't do the AI. So November was a miss, again we was upset but we was ok with it. Taken a break might do us some good. Refreshed and excited December comes along and we do the AI an wait again the 2 weeks. Shell was late on her period but after being 3 days late she started her period, we was upset we was hoping she was pregnant. Jan comes along an we was just getting over XMAS and the donor was away as well so Jan 2012 was a miss.

We wasn't to upset about it as it was nuetrual. Feb comes long we go an do the AI. we waited 2 weeks and shell never had her period. A day turned into a week late, so we decided to take a pregnancy test on Feb 23 2012. The first test was one them cheap test strips we got off amazon. It came back with a faint 2nd line. We was like ok, are we pregnant or not???? I looked up a faint pregnancy test and what I read was that its more than likely your pregnant a line is a line regardless how faint. Well we wanted to be sure, so I went and bought a clearview pregnancy digital test. It tells you if your pregnant and how far along you are. Shell came home from work and took a pregnancy test, withing a minute it came up Pregnant, then another minute went by an it said pregnant 1-2 weeks. we was over whelmed over joyed..We  was open mouthed, couldn't stop smiling. We was pregnant and was over the moon. We couldn't believe it!!
